Hostel Review: Lum Hostel, Tulum

Travel

Guys, I’m about to share with you what I can say without a doubt is the best hostel in Tulum! I don’t have enough good things to say about my experience at Lum Hostel (aka Casa Lum) during my recent trip to Mexico. When I was looking on Hostelworld for where to stay on our trip, I was hesitant when I saw Lum because it had crazy high ratings but very few reviews! But I decided to take a change and trust the reviews (they rarely steer me wrong!), and I’m so glad I did.

Lum is a brand new hostel in the town of Tulum and as soon as you walk in, you’ll be amazed by it’s beautiful and modern design! The hostel is a mixture of concrete and tropical elements. The rooms are just as beautiful as the rest of the property, and it even has the most epic rainfall showers! In the common area there’s a ping pong table, a beautiful bar with great drink deals, hammocks, cozy chairs, and everything you need to chill out and hang with new friends.

One of the best parts about Lum is the incredible staff, which is made mostly up of travelers who came to Tulum and decided they needed to stay! The staff organizes trips to the cenotes and local beaches and just about every night there’s an opportunity to join an activity.

The only aspect that may not be a fit for you is the location, which is in the town and about 15 minutes from the beaches. If seen photos of Tulum on Pinterest, you’ve probably seen photos of all the fancy hotels with jungle vibes that are located on the beach in the “hotel district”, and are also $500+ a night. But for me, I enjoyed staying in the town because it was a more authentic experience and there was still tons of great food and going out options that I would have otherwise missed if I had stayed in the hotel district!
