Hostel Review: Puerto Dreams, Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca

If the only beaches that come to mind when you think of Mexico are Cancun and Cabo, then you’re missing out! As of now, my favorite beach town in Mexico is Puerto Escondido, on the West Coast in the state of Oaxaca. Puerto Escondido is most widely known for its surf and hippie vibe, but you don’t need to be a surfer to fall in love with this place!

I stayed at Puerto Dreams Hostel during my time in Puerto Escondido and my stay here was the highlight of the trip! Puerto Dreams is the kind of hostel where you instantly feel like family, and the staff do an amazing job of making you feel right at home.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always had a thing for surf culture even though I’ve only gotten the chance to surf a few times! Either way, there’s just something about a bunch of surf boards laying around and people planning their day around the waves. It’s the ultimate beach bum dream.

The vibe at Puerto Dreams is pretty much surf, chill, drink, repeat! All the things I’m on board for. The hostel is a very open and breezy with lots of wall murals and an awesome rooftop patio with hammocks and cozy couches.

There is free breakfast every morning that’s delicious, and lots of cheap dinners at night and opportunities to go out to eat with your new friends. Meeting people is super easy here since it’s pretty hard not to be in a friendly mood when you’re in paradise! And one of my favorite parts is the Wednesday night salsa classes on the rooftop that turn into a huge party before everyone goes out salsa dancing on the town. But the awesome bar at the hostel makes it hard to leave!

Got a group together to have lunch at a local restaurant out back of a car wash 🙂

The hostel is right in the center of town making it easy to get around and all the beaches are a super cheap taxi ride or bike ride away! And to give you a glimpse of the beauty you’ll get to see…

If you get the chance to visit Puerto Escondido, make sure you stay at Puerto Dreams! Having locals to show you around is the best way to experience a place, and you are guaranteed to fall in love with this coastal gem. Cheers to all the staff and the friends we made here for making us feel at home, and we can’t wait to come back soon!
